Surrender to the Help

ree

You Can’t do it Alone

We were getting better and better as a team. But I knew something was missing.

We plateaued.

We were finally at the point where we would win a game here and there and being blown out by a team became a little fewer than before, though we still lost many games.

But for some reason things just felt stuck.

I had a good friend of mine who was around for some time, and he agreed to come in and help coach. He played college ball so I knew any advice he had for the team would help.

“That one session with coach Eliab changed the game.”

One of my players mentioned the drastic improvement my friend made during our practice.

The very next game we had a chance to implement a defense strategy, I assumed my friend used in college, and it made us so much more of a challenge.

I would even go as far as to say, that this was one of the biggest reasons why we began to win so many more games down the road.

But it can be humbling to admit you need help.

Can’t I do it alone?

No.

No one got anywhere by themselves. Not one person. Not one team.

Every successful person had people in their corner who coached them, gave them wisdom, helped them see stuff from another angle.

When my friend took over, something happened on the inside of me. I felt like I wanted to micromanage. I felt like the players may grow to like him more than me. I felt like the players would maybe even assume that I had no clue what I was doing and fire me (I know dramatic). But that something I was feeling on the inside was surrender.

We have to surrender to the help.

How are you when it comes to asking for help? Do you ask for it? Do you resist it? Do you think it makes you look weak?

What you are actually doing is keeping yourself from the leveling up you know you want.

It’s not easy. But it’s possible.

Surrender to the help.

What is the help that you could be asking for right now? What questions have you had for a long time but you’ve been too embarrassed to ask? Who is someone you can tap into for advice and wisdom?

What’s stopping you?

It’s time to lean in.

It’s time to surrender to the help.

And watch you game change like you never imagined it.
